Tipping my hat to the Greenville thread, I’d like to ask similar questions to the relatively new Spartanburg residents.
I’m considering a move to the Spartanburg area. I’ve been looking at all neighborhoods, particularly the Roebuck and Carolina Club area.
Please, I’d really like to keep the discussion focused on Spartanburg
  • Any second thoughts to your move? Would you have selected a different neighborhood or area?
  • Do you find the overall quality of life to be better or worse than expected?
  • Do you feel safe when you go into town, the mall, and shopping?
  • How do you find the police, fire, and medical services?
  • Are there any areas that you just rather avoid?

I really appreciate your thoughtful opinions!

I don’t know much about Roebuck and Carolina Club. We are off Fernwood Road, not far from the current high school. We absolutely love our area — close to schools, shopping, downtown, our church, the Cottonwood Trail, YMCA, Chapman, Converse, Wofford, Publix, Fresh Market. We can be just about anywhere in about 10 minutes.

We go downtown regularly — I play mah Jong at Spill the Beans, wine tastings at Carriage House, Blue Moon, the library, the restaurants.

Our neighbors are fabulous and have been very welcoming.

We came from the DC area and I wouldn’t go back for anything in for the world.

My wife and I live on the southeast side near Spartanburg Country Club. We love Spartanburg! The quality of life in Spartanburg is excellent. We have many friends that live in the Roebuck area and at the Carolina Country Club. They all seem to love the area around Roebuck. The Carolina Country Club it self is very beautiful and has some beautiful homes. Unless you live there or have friends in Carolina Country Club it is hard to get through the gates. Roebuck is very spread out and there are so many new neighborhoods it is hard to keep up with all of the new growth. Spartanburg is very safe and we would not want to live anywhere else! If you need any more info. please ask and we can help.

I gotta ask you about Fernwood: what age bracket are the residents? The reason I ask: while I realize that style is subjective, in some markets I look at the listings, and can't help but wonder: "what were they thinking?"

In perusing through Fernwood's listings, however, several of the homes are beautifully styled, which makes me wonder if some of the residents are older? Or does Fernwood have a broad mix of people, including young families?

Forgive me for asking what might seem obvious , but is Roebuck a section of Spartanburg, or is it her own town? And if I understand you correctly, your comments about safety apply to Roebuck, as they do to Spartanburg?

Fernwood is an older, established neighborhood with houses built in the late 1950s-70s for the most part. Most are one-level with a smattering of split levels and a couple two story.

I would say the ages range from mid 30s to 80s. Many residents raised their children in the neighborhood and are just staying put. The neighborhood is beginning to turn over with young families as houses become available.

I think it is also attracting “young” retirees (60s) who want to ditch bigger houses and have one-level living. I know several of those. There is a lot of renovation occurring in the neighborhood.

The neighborhood has lots of mature trees and established landscaping. There is a neighborhood pool and the Cottonwood Trail nearby for hiking.

Yes! When my son and I are looking for a different, close to home getaway, we go walking there. Lovely area.

Roebuck is a census designated area in Spartanburg County, a few miles south-west of the city of Spartanburg. It's not an incorporated town.

Many thanks to all that replied!
I will keep reading the threads in the forum to learn more.
I may also reach out privately to some of the Spartanburg folks for more info, if that's OK.

Happy Spring!
