No idea from experience, but Googling nearby hotels gives you some choices. From there I'd probably go on a site like TripAdvisor.com and see what the reviews are.
You could try Priceline for the Marriott Renaissance downtown - it can usually be gotten for $50-60. It's the only 3.5 star hotel in Spartanburg on Priceline.
Otherwise, the best options nearest there (depending on your budget) are either the Hampton Inn or Holiday Inn Express near Westgate Mall on I-26, or the same two choices on I-85 at exit 78 (usually listed as Spartanburg North options). Or, there is a Comfort Inn at I-85 at exit 75. The hotels nearest Upstate are low-quality budget options (think a lot of longer-term transient clientele) with the exception of the Marriott Courtyard, which is very close to Upstate.
