Upstate Business Journal (2013-08-09, page 2) reported a rumor Walmart is coming to Haywood Road.
Two obvious choices would be a supercenter or Neighborhood Market. As far as location, likely would be limited to The Gallery (635 Haywood Road) or the land lot at Transit Drive.
I wish the Meijer stores would expand south out of Kentucky. They are a nice alternative to Walmart. I was told it was part of their long range plan. I could possibly see them moving down 75 into Knoxville, the Carolinas, and Georgia.

Knoxville and Greenville would be two great growing markets for Meijer to test some stores in the South.

I can see the neighborhood market being placed in this area. There are no other grocery stores on Haywood road.

There has not been a grocery store on Haywood Road since Ingle's was located in The Gallery in the early 1980s and Kroger's Welcome store presently Burlington Coat Factory. I do believe Ingle's was ahead of its time having a store on Haywood Road. Locating along Pelham Road or Laurens Road would have made more sense then and now.

Are there any plans to upgrade the Gallery shopping center? It isn't the nicest looking one. I guess they have a hard time getting big name retailers or restaurants with all the growth on Woodruff.
I wonder what will go in the T J Maxx old store when they move to the new location. That shopping center has taken a hit with Longhorn and T J Max both leaving.
