California governor signs 'gun violence restraining order' law | Reuters

"People who fear a close relative may commit gun violence will be able to petition a judge to temporarily remove the person's firearms in California, under a bill signed into law on Tuesday by Democratic Governor Jerry Brown."

"close relative"

No doubt the law will be clarified to include anyone who knows the individual. After all, there will no be domestic partners, live-ins and everyone else wanting to be included and "protected".

Just how much peace of mind will the individual who had their guns taken away have?

No doubt, to get the guns returned, a new background check will be required. I think it unlikely guns taken away will ever be returned.

Man, I thought DOJ and holding AWB '89 and AWB '94 were bad enough. It never seems to amaze me what people out there get away with. You can smoke dope in public and two gay lovers can make it in the mall........

No guns though!

Sheesh!!

Who cares? It's MY peace of mind that's important!

I think that'll end up being true in a lot of cases, but not all. They won't just bring them back - you'll have to jump through a bunch of hoops, deal with waiting periods, background checks, picking them up during a five minute window 200 miles away, etc., but there'll be a mechanism to get them back.

And we wonder why our areas are inundated with California transplants.

Very true, a lot of Californian transplants are looking for the freedoms we once had, to get away from the tax the worker to support the illegals mentality , and the just plane nutty politics of the state..

But they created that "paradise" so what happens when they leave and start up that mess in other states?

That might be true in a lot of cases, definitely had a lot of Cali fruits and nuts head to Oregon and Washington.. But there's plenty more of us who just want to escape the liberaltopia, and wouldn't want to recreate this mistake somewhere else...
You have to remember we have 5 giant cities that dominate the politics... All liberal meccas

Wow, this is not good. If you put this law into 1st amendment terms, this is like saying "People who fear a close relative will verbally assault them can petition a judge to have a tamper-proof gag put in the relatives mouth "temporarily"".

Not good. The gun grabbers are actually grabbing guns now. I wouldn't want to be the cop who has to go into a persons house(a person who hasn't committed any crime) and take their guns away.
