It depends on face shape and structure, and a guy's personal preference. Also, for a woman to look good with short hair she must keep the cut maintained and styled daily or she just looks like a woman with a boy cut, instead of a woman with a fabulous stylish short cut. Short hair is more work to maintain than long hair - this coming from a woman who has had her hair at all lengths.
I like short hair but I have a round face and I looked like a 12 year old boy. So, no thanks on the short hair. I grew my hair out and it is down to the middle of my back and I get much, much more attention from men. And now I have the Zooey Deschanel long hair with bangs look goin on (supposedly she is my celebrity doppelbanger) and I'm getting more compliments than I ever remember receiving before.
Lots of hair referenced on here is not actually "short". Short means above the ears to mid cheek. Anything past the chin to the shoulder is considered midlength. Past the shoulders is long. (I used to be a hairdresser. Yes, these are the real categories).
Most men like mid length to long. Some like short. Mid length is the safest-- it looks great on most people and is easy to take care of.

I too have had my hair at all lengths, from down to my waist to boy short, bob, shoulder length etc. Short hair is more work. My hair now is half way down my back, and much easier to manage... although I have full hair, and its very dark brown/almost black and it falls everywhere...with a white bathroom, thats annoying!
There are exceptions, but I'm not speaking of them.
The Alabama QB (and every other straight and some gay men and even some lesbians in America) dig the Miss Alabama (with long hair and big boobs).
OH! You're from Alabama! That explains the misguided conception that women with short hair are lesbians. God forbid I simply think I look better with shorter hair.
My husband prefers shoulder length hair, kind of like a bob style. Hes always wanted me to cut my hair shorter but I love long hair, so much more you can do like braids and long loose curls.
