I've decided to TRY to go "natural" which I suspect really means "going grayish." I am 54, I have thick hair cut in a short style and I am going to give this natural thing a go, since I am sick to death of coloring my hair at home. When it's this short (I get it cut once a month), it just doesn't make sense to pay to have it professionally colored, and highlighting always, always tears my hair up, so I am going to try to just go lighter and lighter till the roots aren't as noticeable. That's my plan anyway. We'll see if I can stick to it.
Here's the start - I'll take pictures of the really "rooty" part - LOL!:

I went natural about 2yrs ago now. The last of my highlights are below my chin and slowly getting fazed out. At first the contrast seemed really drastic, but now that it's grown out, it all just blends so naturally. Don't have much noticeable grey yet, though have random white strands. I'm ok with that. I'm in my 30s, but this is the first time I've had natural color in like 20yrs! It gets better and the urge to dye it goes away after a little while! Hang in there!

Thanks for sharing that story - I'm excited about it right now but of course that's because I don't have a white streak down the center of my head yet.
