In a professional salon, a stylist applied Wheat color - a light, somewhat ashy blonde - to my gray hair. Instead of a light ash, it turned a distinct reddish yellow - a strawberry blonde. I hate it. How can I get it out? Can I dye it myself? Will it turn green or purple?
Check into Wella t-14 toner. You can buy it at Sally Beauty supply. It counter reacts the brassy/orange. Also buy either volume 10 or volume 20 developer for it. Go with 10, IMO, though it suggests 20 but 10 will work fine.
Google for before/after images with something like "wella t-14 toner before after".
In the future when trying something new, ask for a test first. It's easier than ending up with the wrong color. I would assume the professional would keep that in mind.
I use henna, but the last time the lighter and grey/white hairs turned an orangish tone. Eventually they turned reddish, but it took two full applications. This time I did a short dark brown staining, mostly toning it brown evenly, followed by a red and its a beautiful dark red instead of wondering when its going to change. But I also did a test and some snipped hair first...
My hair being very fine, when I had it done, I liked using a beauty college and asking the supervisor to be sure they could do it. I'd do that with a pro too, especially if your hair's results may be unpredictable.
Thanks for the advice, but unfortunately, I was going on an 18-day cruise two days after the color job. I went, and hated my hair for the first two weeks, until most of the color washed out. It's nearly normal now in color, but the bleach (which I had told her should only be on abut 5 to 10 minutes - but she left on for 30 minutes) fried my hair terribly. I was barely able to drag a comb through it for two weeks.
Today, I am home and will be going to the owner of the salon to have most of the frizz cut off and, hopefully, will have a repair mask somewhat re-condition my hair.
Wish I had done as Nightbird47 suggested and had a test done first. Oh well...next time.
