Even though most shampoo bottles advise us to "wash, rinse, repeat," do you really lather up twice?

Is two washings really needed or is it just a plot by the shampoo companies to get us to deplete our bottles twice as fast?

I think it depends on the shampoo, your hair type, and also the amount of product you use.

I use a rather gentle shampoo, and I wash once most of the time, but by Friday/Saturday I can usually feel some product build-up and need to wash twice.

I always shampoo twice, either at home or in the salon.

Sounds like you need a better shampoo and conditioner then.

Right now I am loving this "system" by Matrix. (shampoo, conditioner, and leave-in spray)

Matrix Advanced Biolage Keratindose, it's sulfate free, no parabens, and no harsh salts.

One shampoo for me....unless I get something REALLY icky in my hair! Even the salon only does one shampoo.,...I mean, how dirty IS your hair? And, I really only shampoo my scalp..the ends of my hair get clean from the lather being rinsed. Over shampooing can really dry your hair...hair needs some oil, so I try not to over strip it. BTW, my hair is very shiny and healthy...long and glossy!

I do when I use natural/organic shampoos. I feel that some of them are weaker than traditional poos, so I have to suds up twice to get my hair and scalp really clean.

Only once, and I shampoo every evening so my hair never has too much buildup..
I don't need conditioner and make sure to rinse really well. I have oily, straight,
fine, thinning hair. It is fairly short.

I use aveda and only shampoo one time and only twice a week. I shampoo the scalp and make sure to get every part clean, and then I use a conditioner on the middle and ends of my hair. I have very long and thick hair.

Most salons i frequent only shampoo once, but they do it thoroughly.

It's been many years since I've read the "instructions" on a bottle of shampoo (after 50 + years of washing my hair it seems somewhat redundant, LOL.) Is "lather, rinse, repeat" really still a thing?

I figure if one good sudsing doesn't do the job then I need to switch brands. After all, I am not required to clean my dishes, laundry, skin, teeth, floors, car, dog (LOL) etc twice. I always assumed that was just a ploy to get naive consumers to buy more product. I had no clue people still fell for this scam!

I've also never had a salon shampoo twice. I use primarily Aveda products, and only shampoo-condition 3-4 times per week; the rest of the time I just rinse in the shower. My hair is fine and straight and over-treatment just makes it dry and flat.
