Many non-black people believe that black women perm their hair for the sole purpose of making it straight. This I know is not true in all cases, however I am sure it can and does apply to some. What percentage would you venture to say would be accurate? (I know there is no way of really knowing) My step mother gave me a perm when I was 9, most young black girls already have relaxed hair when start to do it themselves. In those instances, they are merely just keeping it up. I am natural now, but I am sure my hair would have been really long right now if it was always natural.
