Hello everyone,

I am in the Navy, and I was looking for some good Apt. complexes in VB. I was looking at choosing orders to NS Norfolk next. I have a wife and a baby on the way.

I was looking at one called Mariners Cove near Witchduck and Independence.

Is this place any good? Would you recommend any others?

thanks

Fairly new and it's near alot of things you will need with a baby on the way. Not far from Bayside Hospital or Haygood Shopping Center or Pembroke Mall.

Mariners Cove is a nice complex. I was eyeing it before I left the area. How much are you looking to spend?

I have a friend who lives there. Better than a lot of complexes I've seen.

I actually used to live in that area. I heard some bad things about Mariner's Cove.

I'd recommend Shores of Lake Smith. That's where I used to live. My hubby got out of the Navy and that's why we moved. It's really quiet there and not too far from anything, and very close to Chesapeake Beach.

Honestly, be VERY careful. A lot of these landlord are slum lords who like to take advantage of military people all because they know they're guaranteed to get their money. (They know all about MyPay) So do A LOT of research because if you don't, you'll end up someplace absolutely miserable. Definitely do you research and talk to as many people as you can. Even people who actually live in these apartments because landlords will tell you anything. My husband and I have had quite a few landlords but the one at Shores of Lake Smith is probably the most honest one.

Also, look at apartment reviews before you and your family consider things as well.

And don't be afraid to sue someone if they give you unfit living conditions because Navy Legal is pretty good with giving you info for that stuff.

Good luck and congrats on the baby!

Thank you for your replies. I am an E-5 so I was looking at spending about 1000 a month for a 2 bedroom. And I have 2 pets so they are friendly on pets.
