It was great!

Everyone was really friendly, including the waitresses at the restaurants, hotel workers and all the people on the beaches.

I don't get it, Why is it like this? Because a lot of people are in the military and they were strict and raised right? I guess I'm use to people in DC not being friendly and not talking to each other.

I stayed at the Cavalier on the Hill. All the reviews online said it was horrible. It was great!!! I was actually impressed by the service we got and for such a cheap price at the last minute! Everything was sparkling clean and every transaction at the hotel was effortless.

Ate at One Fish Two Fish based on the recommendations from here, some of the best seafood I've had in my life. Loved the Taki appetizer and had the Grouper fish special, so good! Had breakfast at the Pocahontas Pancake house, also great! Great service! Great food!

I haven't been to Va Beach in years, It seems like it has gotten a lot better. Now they just need to build a high speed train to get in and out so I don't have to go bald trying to drive home on a Sunday afternoon!

Va Beach rocks!

Glad that you had a great time! Don't see very many positive threads and this was refreshing to read this morning.

One Fish, Two Fish is by far one of my favorite restaurants in VB.

Does VB have a boardwalk with rides and games for the kids?

Yes, a small carnival area near the pier, then right across the street, another larger carnival area with games and rides.

And to the OP, thanks for the positive words...it seems rare to see that here, so that was a breath of fresh air.

VA Beach has no "boardwalk" in the traditional sense. It's a big cement sidewalk along the beach.

The one thing I do give them credit for is the lovely bike path along it.

As for the rides/amusements, it's very small. This is not Coney Island or the Wildwoods. There are not shops and food stands along the boardwalk, it's all hotels with large lawns between the "boardwalk" and the hotel entrances.

Here's a picture of it:

VB has gotten better for the tourists, but worse for the locals. Just check how quickly the population growth has slowed.

I'm curious as to why you consider it worse for locals. I lived there back in 99'-03' and am considering returning in a few years. Would you discourage this? I ask because I'm doing my homework on where my family and I want to relocate to. VAB is near the top of our list, but maybe it's not as good as it used to be (I am aware of housing prices now v. then). Thanks.

I'm making an educated guess but I think one thing that would make it bad for locals would be the economic situation. The area's economy is heavily dependent on defense, shipbuilding, and tourism. For those not working in those fields I see how frustrating the job market for those folks can be. Also the wages have not kept up with the rising cost of housing in Hampton Roads.

Now if you can find a great job in Hampton Roads, it's a great place to live in my opinion. But it is an uphill battle to find a good job in Hampton Roads.
