I guess it just depends. My mother was raised there and pronounces it nor-fik.

All I know is Virginia is one racy state, man. Boy oh boy and wooooo hoo! We have a flag with a lady exposing herself, a major town with a sexually suggestive second syllable, and everyone knows "Virginia is for Lovers."
