Besides Williamsburg, what are some recommendations for safe, family oriented towns with good public schools which are commutable to Hampton, VA (and not prone to flooding)?

Any helpful feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Well, we live in the CNU section of Newport News and love it--it's safe, centrally-located, and very family friendly. The schools don't have a particularly good reputation, but, among my friends and neighbors with children in the NN schools, everyone seems to like them just fine. If you're going to live in Newport News, though, it's important to make sure you're zoned for one of the "good" schools (message me if you want elaboration), as some of the schools in the less desirable areas can be rough.

Lower York County (Tabb and Yorktown) and Poquoson have respected school districts and are an easy commute to Hampton. The home prices, in general, are higher than in NN, but the taxes are a little lower (although, from what I've heard, not enough to offset the higher home prices). All areas of Tabb are safe and family friendly. Yorktown can be a little trickier, but, in general, is safe and has good schools. Poquoson has a smaller town feel and highly rated schools, but is sometimes described as a little redneck-y. The people I know who live in Poquoson, however, seem to really like it there.

Good luck! My family and I have been living in Hampton Roads for almost four years now and really like it here.

I would say Southern York County along Rt. 134. Pretty straight forward access to Hampton. I grew up there and mom had a pretty easy commute to either Ft. Monroe (Southern end of Hampton) or Langley AFB (Northern end of Hampton close to the York/Hampton line).
