Has anyone been paying attention to their water bill? In the city of Virginia Beach we now pay a 'Solid Waste Collection' fee that is attached to the water bill. This service used to be free to the citizens of V.B. and was paid out of a 'General Fund'. Each and every household in V.B. is now paying approximately $22.00 a month for something that was free and it won't stop there. It will continue to go up. Good going V.B. City Counsel, let's run all of the tax paying long time residents out of the city and even out of the state. The average person cannot afford to live here any longer unless they are in the military and are getting certain breaks for that. (Well deserved of course but what happens when they move out, who is paying the taxes then?) It sneaks up on you, it started @ $10.00 a month on January 2012, then to $13.00, now $21.36 and will increase again on July 1, 2014.

This is what I found on the V.B. website:

Waste Management Special Revenue Fund - The FY 2013-14 budget furthers the transition of this operation to an Enterprise Fund by raising the monthly charge from $10 to $21.36, and eliminating all General Fund support to this fund. Page 1-51

I don't live in Virginia Beach, so this is not affecting me and I don't know anything about it. But I found this online. Check out the comments from readers.

I don't think I'll move because of this, and it don't know anyone else who would either. I have too much time and money invested in my home to let an extra 20$ a month run me off.

well I guess you are one of the fortunate that own a home. I rent and believe me, it is getting more expensive by the year.

Not to sound mean, but if an extra 20$ a month breaks your budget then you are living beyond your means.

Default Solid waste collection fee on water bil

No, not mean at all, but the added amount will not stop at $22.00 a month. It is going up again in July 2014. But, S.S. is not going up that much, and rent will go up too.
