Hello all,

We are looking at a potential move to the area next summer. I had been focused on the DC/Bethesda area, but I'm not sold on the SPED programs (even in MoCo.)

Currently we live in a small New England town, about 20 miles south of Boston (as the crow flies). My youngest (aspergers/anxiety) is finishing up elementary. He has had a 1-1 aide and ESY the whole way through. He's high functioning, and would never have gotten those services in other districts. My middle schooler is ADHD/anxiety and has an IEP with 8 goals and a ton of support. If you've ever dealt with IEPS, you can see why I love my school system!

I know I'm not going to recreate the phenomenal support we have, but I would like to find solid support and a neighborhood where my socially awkward boys will feel accepted by their peers, even as the new kids.

Looking at middle/high schools statistically hasn't cleared anything up for me. Great Schools and USNews aren't really jiving when trying to find the hidden gem... GS ranks Cpeake high/VB low, USN ranks one school in VB high/and doesn't rank Cpeake at all. My kids aren't academic overachievers, so AP/IB classes don't factor for me.

Where I live will depend on schools, not work. I commuted 1.5 hours to the SUBASE in Groton and 1 hour to the clinic in Newport in order to keep my kids in the right school. I'm ok with doing it again.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Which would be relevant if the OP's concern was night life or entertainment, but it's not...
