What are you thoughts about the state of this team? They just got a new logo that resembles their original ECHL days of the 1990's. It makes no difference to me though, when they lost their AHL status. I stopped going to their games. Very unfortunate as Norfolk was a victim of the western conference teams wanting to move west. It is too bad they could not hold on to the Tampa Bay Lightning affiliation. They would still be in the AHL today if that was the case.

They are an official ECHL affiliate of Nashville now. Their AHL team is the Milwaukee Admirals strangely enough. I think Norfolk should be the AHL team and Milwaukee be the ECHL team myself.

The new owner has a fight on his hands, because the drop in quality of hockey from AHL to ECHL is HUGE. Much bigger than the drop from NHL to AHL. It was fun to see players who just played for their NHL team or are going to soon. Norfolk has produced the likes of Corey Crawford, Duncan Keith, Tyler Johnson, Shawn Thornton, Dustin Bfugylin, Craig Anderson, etc. With the ECHL now, you wont get that. That is why I stopped going.

I'm generally curious why you think Norfolk deserves to be in the AHL over Milwaukee? Milwaukee holds almost every major advantage over Norfolk.

Don't forget Admiral alum John Gibson.. he's been a good NHL goalie for Anaheim.

Personally, I like the new (throwback) logo. It's cleaner & bolder; sticks to the simpler, original color scheme.

That said, I think Admiral hockey is currently in trouble.. Like u stated, lesser skill level, combined with a hard season.. and then hockey is always tenuous in the SouthEast. I'm not sure what the solution is, but I"m rooting for their success.

I was sorry to see them lose the AHL affiliation as well. We've been to several games over the last 2 years and the games were OK, as you said the talent/skill dropoff was noticeable. The biggest issue for us has been the I-64 construction, so getting over to Norfolk for anything (hockey/baseball/concerts) is pretty much a no go zone for us now.
