We're getting ready to relocate to the Norfolk area from overseas and are considering a house in the Chicks Beach area, as a compromise between good VB schools and the bad commute into NOB from most of VB. Does anyone have an opinion on this area for a family? We have three boys. We all dearly love the beach and I have been to Chicks Beach, but it was years ago.
Thanks!

Hey, I think Chicks beach area is awesome for the kids but I don't know much about housing. Friends of ours live in Lake Shores which is close to Chicks beach and it is a nice neighborhood with a great elementary school. How old are your children, if they are in highschool you may want to consider Cox area because Bayside is not as good. If they are younger then it will not matter. Good luck!

Yep, I agree. Bayside Middle and High School has alot to be desired. Cox is a nice school on Great Neck..go check it out. Chicks is a great place. As I've said in a past post, had there been houses for sale 2 years ago, I would have purchased one in a heartbeat.

Thank you for the assistance! The house we are considering is Great Neck Middle/Cox HS. I just doublechecked on the VBPS website. It seems like an area we would really enjoy. We used to live in the "locals" area in Newport RI and loved going for walks on the beach there every day.
It just seems like if we live in Norfolk we're going to end up in a private school.

We just did dinner at the Hot Tuna. I miss Duck Inn and we have so much fun bringing boardie friends from out of town down there for the buffet, chasing sand crabs on the beach. But the area you are considering is primo!
Plus just across the va bch blvd. heading south, is the London Bridge Nursery! They have some nice stuff there and that's where I plan on getting some of my garden stuff this year.

Look into Cape Story By The Sea. It is the neighborhood between Great Neck Road and First Landing State Park, off Shore Drive. "Google Cape Story By the Sea" for more info.
