I am an attractive, white single again (divorced) male, 45 year old healthcare professional relocating to the Virginia Beach area Jan 4, 2010. I will be working at one of the healthcare facilities in Norfolk, VA. I plan to rent for about 3-6 months before I build or purchase a house. I am wanting to know if there are good areas to rent? I have heard about Ghent and Chick's Beach. Myself, I want to have a short commute to work, but I like to be walking distance to the social scene i.e. nightlife venues, restaurants, martini bars, etc. Of course, I am past the 20-30s scene. Usually, I like to meet attractive single women mid-30's to early 40's. Any recommendations on where to live for a guy my age? Just a note, I have checked out Chick's Beach, but it may be really too young of a crowd. On a more positive note, I loved Chicks Beach. Being a fitness buff, the Inlet Gym was really nice. Any advice would be appreciated.

Stay with the idea of Chicks Beach. There are many your age that rent in the area and they have built some nice condos' along shore drive. If the young ones you've mentioned were at the beach, it's likely they are locals of the area in general, not necessarily living in Chicks Beach.

mmm, I"m going to recommend sticking with Chicks Beach as well. Also, maybe the Hilltop area, (laskin road which turns into 31st street) of Virginia Beach. You probably can't walk so much, but you will be very close to some night life. Also, there is town center in VB. You can leave around Columbus Station and be close enough to walk to some good restaurants/bars/clubs.

and of course downtown Norfolk, Ghent and the waterfront.

I am considering moving to Virginia Beach. Where in Virginia Beach do you live and what's it like? What are the different areas of Virginia beach? I am a nurse, what is the nearest hospital to you. And how are the winters?mary

We have 2 hospitals in VA Beach (I think), and a CHKD satellite. What type of nurse are you? Maybe you should look online and find a job that interests you, and then we could give you more information. VA Beach is large, and just because you live in VA Beach doesn't mean you have to work in VA Beach. There are several hospitals in the local area.
