Our family is moving to VA Beach near Oceana in 3 months. We have 2 young boys, ages 7 and 3. Looking for awesome schools, our first choice is a private christian school but would also like to look at public schools. Looking for a family friendly neighborhood with yards (not big ones but big enough for the kids to play) Would like to be about a 10-20 minute drive to the beach.

Can anyone give us some help? We need subdivision names. Also our max price is 260,000 on a house.

Thanks

Real etate is still pretty high in Va Bch, homes will be cheaper around Oceana just because of the loud jet noise that most people dont want to deal with....I will attach a link to the local real estate listing and you can look and see what you like.....Then you can list several neighborhoods you are interested in and we can give you advice from there

I do not want to waste me time with neighborhoods that are not appealing or meet our needs.

You should search for different houses in your price range, and let us know the neighborhoods they are. Then we can tell you if they are good are not. VA Beach is large. Maybe you should contact an agent.

I would take a look at the Ocean Lakes neighborhood. It is near great shopping, a couple mins from both Oceana and Dam Neck, 4--5 miles for the Oceanfront and has several very good elementary schools (Ocean Lakes ES, Red Mill ES, Strawbridge ES and 3 Oaks ES, Corporate Landing MS, Princess Anne MS and Ocean Lakes HS). Two of mine have gone to Ocean Lakes HS and we have been very happy with it so far. You should be able to find a 3 and 2 ranch for close to 260K

and until we know what you find appealing and what suits your needs we can offer little help....Va Bch is a pretty big area with lots of different neighborhoods.......260K is on the low end for a house in Va Bch so you are going to have to help us out some if you want help in return

we are looking in the Dam Neck Estates area. We want to stay close to Oceana but do not want a house that is right off a major road. There are many houses listed everyday in VA Beach that are in our price range but we want to make sure it is not a run down area. My husband is there now working and he has seen some that are good houses but seem like the neighborhoods are not very well taken care of.

Just remember the closer to Oceana you are the louder the jet noise will be.

One thing you may want to keep in mind, with the economy the way it is, some are not going to put out a bunch of money to make the outside of their houses look purty. Another is that we've had a ****ty winter and nobody (or that I've seen) has been out cutting their grass, painting their house or planting flowers the past few months.

Thanks. yeah we have had a rough winter up in the Shenandoah Valley of VA as well. We dont mind jet noise. We have been there several times and vacation there every year. I grew up right next to a train station and am use to noises. The boys like the jets and now there is a night time restriction of jets flying which makes for a peaceful night sleep
