Hi. I just took a job in Harrisburg, PA and found a cheap home in Steelton. Does anyone know if this is a nice area? I know there are nice, quiet, green areas around Harrisburg, and I'm hoping this is one of them. Thanks for your help!

It's not really 'ghetto' per say... but I wouldn't neccessarily recommend it.

Steelton is very blue collar. It's fairly poor and there are a few ghetto areas of town. But it does seem to be on the rebound. The main street is getting a facelift and there is a plan for a new grocery store and retail shops, offices and condos in the near future. Depending on where your home is located it could be worth a lot more in a few years.

Steelton definitely has a ghetto look to it. Also very depressing with the old steel mills taking up pretty much the entire stretch of the main street through town. I would think nearby Middletown would be a better choice for a decent town with a lower cost of living.

Wow, glad I asked......don't want to be in the getto, but $70,000 for a house was a nice price. Thanks for your help.
