Advice please: I'm from NJ. I'm moving into a rental house (also in NJ) with some friends. My parents just sold their house (I was currently living at home) and the closing date is in April. Last night, something unexpected happened with the rental and we won't be able to move in the house until July. I was also just laid off.
My aunt suggested that I stay with her at her condo in Honolulu for a few months until I'm able to move into the rental. I have about $6,000 in savings (plus a CD and a checking account) but I'm nervous about spending money traveling when I'm moving. I also want to continue being productive. I would like to get a temp job while staying at my aunt's, (even if it's just for a couple of days a week, for a few hours a day) Does anyone know of any temporary employment on the islands? (I'm having difficulty finding temp agencies.) Retail, clerical, whatever I can. If I can't find a job for the summer, I would at least like to volunteer to build my resume and meet others while I'm in a new place.
My last question: Any tips on how to travel very cheaply? I won't need to worry about hotel expenses or eating out all the time, but cheap sight seeing? My family is saying not to worry about money, but I am. I'm a little overwhelmed, and VERY nervous. Is this a horrible idea?
