I want to move to Hawai'i. What shall I do?

You could also do a forum search for "wwoofing" because there have been many discussions about that. Hotzcatz has given lots of helpful advice on these threads.

It is at least willing slave labor, they can move on any time they want. Usually they only work a couple hours a day or ten or fifteen hours a week. It gives them crash space and a starting point without having to fork over $$$ each night for a hotel. Each farm is different, some are worthwhile and others are probably best left alone.

I'm seeing a lot of folks sort of starting cottage businesses. Each one is different, but each one is producing something for market. If you can keep your overhead low enough, these sorts of things work.

lol. Probably a lot of things can seem that way. Peace Corps, etc. They're still good things though, with a lot of great stuff that can come your way from it.

Depends on where a person is in life.

For me, I would take up WOOFing in a heartbeat, if I were young and single. Not so easy supporting a family however.

It sounds like you need to park the proceeds from your house for a little while, come out to the BI and rent an Ohana and a scooter for a few months until you figure out where you want to live. I have no experience with communes but you'd probably want to figure out what crowd is best for you before moving into a shared type arrangement. I wouldn't buy anything until you've been here for at least 6-12 months. Good luck!
