I've been reading posts on another forum about how bad the vog has been lately on the BI. From the Vog models it appears to be quite widespread, perhaps being felt as far as Kauai.
I experienced vog on Kauai about a year ago because of Kona winds but understood those to be less common at this time of year.
When last on the BI, in October, Hilo was miserable but Kona was fine. Mother Nature refuses to be predictable, evidently.

Can those who live on the other islands comment? Thanks! Just trying to get a handle on this.

We typically get vog 4 times a year or so on Oahu but that can vary a lot.

Have you had it in the past few days?

I can't speak for the past few days as I landed at noon today - but today is quite vog free on Oahu. The humidity is brutal today, but that is another discussion. The high humidity may make it look like vog today, but there isn't any, at least on Oahu.

Thumbs down Maui...

The VOG index on Maui is unbelievable. My gauge is Haleakala. This island just gets socked in on
a very regular basis. Not a healthy place to live if you value good air quality.

The week before Thanksgiving I was visiting Oahu (it has gotten really full over there! Cars and people everywhere!) and there was vog for the first three or four days I was there. Very heavy vog, too, I was surprised.

Thanks so much for your responses. I know the Big Island gets a lots of press vis a vis this subject but there's little about the other islands.

I'm trying to do due diligence with respect to an upcoming move.

I was surprised to hear someone who lived in Hilo comment that she felt the vog, when they had it locally, was far worse than on the Kona side of the island. Her comments had to do with the way it sat on top of the town. It was certainly unpleasant for us.
Air pollution in general can be more difficult than is often considered in Northern California where I currently live, but it's not the same as vog.

Any further information about vog on any of the Hawaiian islands is greatly appreciated.

On the Hamakua coast of the Big Island we don't get all that much vog, surprisingly enough. Prevailing winds and all that. But, it's totally unpredictable.
