Perhaps I'm just used to spotting them - and I'm pretty sure I know who is responsible for the fake threads on moving to Hawaii as eventually this person chimes in with a "where is the Aloha" or "why do you think that" (in response to thinking it is fake).

When I first came on CD - there was a rash of: I have $10K in savings posts. They were so over the top and called out by myself and eventually others, they fortunately came to an end. But there were a lot of them. Almost a new $10K in savings poster every week. Finally everyone caught on. Poof, gone.

The latest rage is:

A long winded theoretical poster (another clue). Female. With kids, usually a few of them but doesn't really show any concern about them or the future). Often isn't specific about the island (or picks the Big Island). Speaks on behalf of a husband. May or may not have visited Hawaii. Loves the water. It's an adventure. Doesn't matter if it doesn't work out or does work out. Wants a simpler life (although that hasn't happened in their existing life). Has an excuse for anything regarding any concern - and I mean anything. School issues - no problem. Money issues - no problem, or default to the Big Island. Questions from the husband - nope, won't hear from him. Just has "visited" or not at all. Can't get specific on anything on the move. Has no job - or won't move until the incredible job happens (even the poster isn't the person getting the job). Usually is more creative about moving than just the weather, but doesn't pass the reasonable person test.

These aren't real, don't get sucked into them. Call them out.

Why? Is calling them out more fun than letting them run? Where's the sport in shooting them on sight? It's like fishing, you gotta let the line run a little and then bring them back when they're tired out. Much more fun than just yanking them out of the water with one big pull. Much more entertainment factor this way.

The issue for me is it detracts from the people who really are moving. They are so over the top it deflects from the real people who are moving with real questions.

Well said, Hotzcatz.

My issue is with the angst that it provokes with many here. Totally ignorant mainlander-resident-wannabe's running to the defense of those who balk at any inkling of anything that might mess with their pre-conceived notions of Hawaii Nirvana.

I'm going to agree here...sigh. Let them run. Give them all the line they want and, when they tire, pull them in, pat them on their little heads, and resist the urge to say "I told ya so."

And haul them up to your lanai, mix up a mai-tai, and give them a warm hug. Because that is how we roll here.

Do you have any ideal just how arrogant and self important you sound? Wow you claim to know what its like to live in Hawai'i because you know how expensive it is? Like your experience and reality is the only reality. But at the sametime you can't get rid of your mainland thinking and struggle with simple Hawai'i socialisms.

The angst with many here in CDF Hawai'i is only the bruising of self important egos!

Do you? Just because you lived here a long time ago? Even though most of it is not relevant in 2014?

But you wouldn't really know what is relevant or not because you don't have any history to compair in your life viper, So many things different on the outside but the same within. I believe we had this discussion before? Not willing to argue anymore. Have good day and aloha.

Well, HBH, if you are urging people to treat everyone with Aloha, then why berate PaliPatty for sounding "arrogant and self-important". If you REALLY want us all to "be humble and move on", then why are you taking the time to beat up on her and whtviper1 (and me at times)? Obviously anything that anyone posts here is their personal opinion and most of them are based on personal experience, so why does that make you so angry?

Patty lives on Oahu and has been posting here for two years, so I think that she has some real life experience to share with people who come here looking for information on moving to Hawaii. Sorry if you think that the sharing of our experiences is only done to build up our "self-important egos".

Hmmmm, could the usual 'use the search function, question has been asked and answered many times' blah blah first response to nearly any question detract from real posters with real questions?

How 'bout the constant 'you'll need a million gazzion bucks here' blah blah detract real posters?

Let's just start new threads everyday about our paradise. Start with all the Aloha - google Maui Kalama Beach Park. Healthy living- google Measles this week, cane burn and vog most anytime. Community spirit- google MPD or Maui news for the latest missing person(s). Fun in the sun- google, wait for it , yup Maui again for fatal shark incidents.

Maybe there are No Real New Posters anymore, maybe the great Aloha Paradise Myth has finally reached the mainland, nice place to visit but.......that's what we want to tell these Real or Fake Posters isn't it?
