Hi! I'm looking for Filipino nurses here in Hawaii. Just arrived recently and got no one to talk too regarding nursing stuffs. Got many questions in mind. Hope someone would be patient enough to answer.
To start with, I'm an RN in Phil but didn't take the NCLEX yet. I'm planning to take the exam here but kinda worried if I'm eligible or qualified to take it and how much should I pay for it.
Is it hard to look for nursing jobs here? I graduated 2009 and volunteered for 3 months in a public hospital. Basically I have no 1 or 2 years experience and I know volunteer nurse would not add up to my experience.
I'm starting to feel hopeless right now. Can someone tell me what should I do. Thanks!
Take the NCLEX. Don't worry about how much you will pay for it. You NEED to take it right?
Get at least one to two years experience before you come to the islands. With one year experience you qualify (not guaranteed) a GS (federal) job. Two years experience is standard for the outside.
I suggest Southern California. Get yourself established. Build up a savings. Read some of these other posts/threads. It isn't cheap living in Hawaii.
Also, it doesn't matter if you are Filipino, but you will look like a lot of the locals. There is a big Filipino population in San Diego as well.
I have too. Got no choice. I'm with my husband and I'll be staying here for good. How about nurse assistant or care giver? What exams should I take for those? Am I qualified?
Call the BON and get the real story ... you need to talk with them to see if you are qualified to sit for the boards. BON has it's place with the PVL Licensing Branch. They can also assist you with your other conerns.
Volunteer work certainly can count as experience. Perhaps not as much as a paid position but all the same it is experience. (this is true for many "volunteer" positions - shows organization abilities, skills, etc).
Finding an RN position in Hawaii is difficult to say the least, the new graduates in Hawaii are going to the US Mainland for jobs. . . there are always openings for Certified Nurses Aides but finding a job will as an RN will be challenging with your limited skills unless you have more to add.
Hi rose.. how are you? I am a filipino nurse on Maui but still unemployed. I don't have any nursing experience. I graduated in 2009 too. I already passed NCLEX but it's just so hard to find job in Hawaii without experience. Would love to help you regarding NCLEX application and review.
Marriza, Hopefully Rose after 7 months of not posting will give us an update.
thanks whtviper1.. are you a nurse also? I see that you are in Honolulu, I am from Maui.
