I'm Moving to Hawaii fairly soon and I was wondering what to wear to job interviews. I work in the "white collar" world, here in California its a suit & tie, but Hawaii being "laid back," I'm just not sure what to pack for Hawaii.

Check out Ala Moana mall and find Reyn Spooner or visit Macy's and see a sales person. Most professional men wear the traditional (high end) aloha shirt w/nice slacks, shoes and socks. If you are applying for a corporate banking position, a nice suit will do - aloha shirts are for Friday in this case. Good luck.

Aloha:
Back in the 1960s, we had a fashion revolution called "Aloha Friday". Men no longer had to wear white shirts and ties to work in downtown Honolulu. Aloha Shirts were acceptable fashion! It had started out as an Aloha Week observance. But it became every Friday of the year. And over a relatively few years, the custom had spread to the entire week. The Aloha Shirt has become a high fashion item that can be as expensive as a dress shirt. There are as many interpretations as one can imagine for the Aloha Shirt style, but La'akea was totally correct that you can't be more 'downtown' than in a Reyn-Spooner reverse-print Aloha Shirt. Quality material, subtle prints, with bright but muted colors, worn by those downtown, and elsewhere in the islands as well.
And don't stop there. Immerse your self in other facets of Hawaii's rich culture, including its music. Hawaiian music has a lot more to offer than just "Tiny Bubbles". There is an entire music industry here for you to enjoy.
Best of luck,
Harry B.

Laakealight is right on. I would add that even though the look is casual, making a first impression is just as important as on the mainland. Have your shirt and pants pressed neatly. Tailored clothes and quality shoes and belt will be noticed. Spend a few days downtown to see what others are wearing, it will be worth it.
