Hey all...I'm going to be making a move to Kailua Kona probably before the end of the year. Who all is living in that area at the moment? I'd like to be able to meet up with some people and get to know the area. By the time I get there, I will be 25. I have two 50 pound dogs and I saw that there is a group of people that meet with their dogs on the beach near Kailua and am interested in becoming a part of that. My girls love playing with other dogs.

What other ways do you recommend for meeting poeple in Hawaii? I'm always up for anything! Can't wait to learn about the culture! Thanks for any information!

If you take your dogs to a park or the beach you certainly met others with dogs or whom admire them! If you belong to a Church there is a built in social net and you will meet people at work and just 'around' at stores and eateries.

It is not hard to meet people here- we are basically very friendly and if you appear to be open and have a good 'vibe' then making friends should not be an issue! Good luck!

A note on word usage, "Hawaiian" generally refers to someone descended from the second wave of inhabitants to this island, the Polynesians who became Hawaiians. Even though the usage is probably strictly not proper, generally folks would say "Hawaii Friends" meaning "friends who live in Hawaii" since many folks here would interpret "Hawaiian Friends" to mean "friends of Hawaiian descent".

As far as meeting people, it is pretty hard not to. There aren't that many people here that folks ignore each other like they do in cities. I'd expect any rural place you move to would be the same way. When there are a lot of folks in one spot, they have to ignore each other to get through their day. If you get to a rural enough area, any time you see someone, you acknowledge that you see them and even though we aren't quite at that stage, folks are still pretty open to chatting with strangers.
