Hilton Waikoloa

We have been there several times. The kids absolutely loved it. It is safe, fun, big, has plenty for the adults too. The art displays are amazing. It rarely ever rains there. Really.

If you book thru their site, you are pretty well guaranteed best pricing.

All very true. But like the rest of Kohala, the vog is often terrible, and it can "feel" overcast when it's really vog.

Although most people think this, it's not true most of the time for most hotels. We have stayed a couple of dozen times at the Hilton Waikoloa and have always gotten our best prices by my calling the hotel directly and negotiating, or emailing or faxing one of the management contacts we developed at the hotel over the years.

One should always call any hotel and offer to negotiate -- particularly in places where there is suffering tourist economy and lots of hotel choices. Moreover, it's not well known, but in the hotel industry, the term "best rate" does not necessarily have any relationship to actual cheapest rate.
