I'm dropping my Dental Insurance next month, when Open Season finally comes around. Biggest waste of money and such a hassle to get claims paid.

I had different Delta Dental plans (offered from different states ...they were from the states where my 2 diff employers had HQ). One Delta plan covered implants and the other didn't. Delta Dental of CA covered implants and had a higher dedictible ($2000 or possibly $2500) and paid 80%. The other was Delta Dental of NJ (no implants) and had $1500 deductible and paid 50%. I never lived in either of those 2 states but the company HQ was there and they had employees in many states. Both plans had nationwide in-network dentists which was really the nationwide PPO list of Delta dentists. Seems they sell the policies slightly /market diff in each state and tack on the name of the state after Delta- even though all claims are sent to the same nationwide Delta processing centers.

After I left my employer for the CA plan, Delta sent me a letter offering dental insurance (it wasn't COBRA, it was just a plan that was offered to people that didn't have it through their employer).

For $125.00 a year(family of 4), we signed up for Vital Savings through Aetna. It isn't insurance, it's a discount plan, for both dental and vision. We haven't had any problem finding providers using it.

My dentist discounts 40-50% for crowns and implants as well as regular cleanings using this plan.

Thanks for that info. Most plans don't pay more than 50% on crowns/implants, anyway. This appears to be the most cost-effective premium, yet. I checked the network for my dentist - he isn't included - but for others going forward, not wed to a particular practitioner, there seem to be lots of good choices on the list in my area.

My son/dil are looking for dental insurance. I'm forwarding this info to them.

Thanks, again.

My family and I use Ameriplan Healthcare which has dental, vision, prescription and more. The plan is 49.95 per month and we just saved 268 on a dental visit for our kids. Our plan includes discounts on crowns, fillings, implants, braces, dentures and more. Savings can be from 25% to 80%. I love the savings we get since this is the only unexpected visit. One of the best features is no caps on services. Moderator cut: no soliciting, please
