Ill try to explain best i can, husband started working for city of new york in august of 2014. we have been married since 2004. i was NOT added to the health insurance due to the misplacement of our marriage license. Finally got around to getting the license, and turns out I am expecting. Papers were faxed to HR dept last week.

Anyone know about how long of a wait I am looking at before i am added to the coverage?

Normally, if you were included on the initial application, and was not approved due to the missing marriage certificate, AND, you diligently applied for a copy, AND it was not until now that the responsible agency provided the document, you would be retroed back to the original date your husband was approved for coverage.

If, however, you were not diligent in obtaining a duplicate and simply put it off, it will start the next month after submitting the document and is not retro.

But, the administrator may not even ask and assume you were diligent (not lazy) and grant it back to the original application date.

Depends on when the open enrollment is for the city. If you are outside of the time to get the paperwork in, you are out of luck until the next open enrollment session (fall for a Jan 1st start is most common). If you are still within the timeframe to supply the necessary documentation for the dependent audit, your coverage will be retroactive to the start of the latest plan year (Jan 1st ??).

If you are outside of that timeframe, I would get online and get a private plan now.
