Correction to this (I think). If I understood him correctly, Dr. Emanuel's statement on his insurance is that his employer offers a high-deductible plan which reduces his premium by $100/mo. He clearly used the word reduced (or lowered). He doesn't state the actual amount he pays (or his coverage - family, etc.).
For anyone willing to invest 45 minutes, this video is well worth viewing. I just finished watching, again. Dr. Emanuel covers a lot of territory, talks about Gruber's role, admits the deductibles are an issue which needs attention, among other things. One really needs a bullet-point outline to remember it all.
Oh, and for those still hoping for single-payer/Medicare for all, Dr. Emanuel states that will never happen because the insurance companies are a large robust industry and won't allow it.
Yes I heard that and was going to comment on it, as if fortifies what I was saying in an earlier post (#57). Shows you who's running the show.
I read elsewhere that Joe Biden told the President on Day One public option and/or single-payor was a nonstarter due to industry opposition, so that utopian concept was abandoned very early on.

Yes, I'm aware of the above. It is sickening and very disheartening, but I believe it is just politics, and politics can get very ugly. However, truth be told, it is VERY UNLIKELY anything would have gotten past without these backroom deals. That is why I say that things will never change unless everyone (including the government) is hemorrhaging.
