I started my eye insurance last April used the insurance to cover my contact lenses. I am renewing my benefits for work that start in mid January.

Does that mean I can reuse my eye insurance starting next January or do I have to wait till August again?

Appreciate any feedback

Depends on what your plan says. Some of the plans allow you to use the benefit once/year any time in that year, others you have to wait 366 days to use the benefit again. Ask your HR. We have VSP, we can use our benefit any time during the year, but only once/year.

My VSP plan is calendar year, not 365 days. I could order glasses dec 31 and get a new pair Jan 1.

We have had VSP for over 20 years and it has always been every 366 days. On the other hand, when I changed companies (both jobs had VSP) our daughter got contacts before I left my old job and then got glasses two months later when I started my new job ;-)

It is a calendar year. You may want to check about glasses - mine say they will only cover frames every other year.

It might be one year from date of use; check with VSP, they can tell you when you are eligible to use the benefits again.

If this is an employer plan, your benefit year renews on the date of the employer plan renewal. If your health benefits renew mid January, that's the renewal year of your benefits. You can contact your HR or VSP for the specific date.

If this is a private plan, your benefits renew on the commencement date of benefits you picked at time of enrollment. You can contact VSP or look at your application for the exact date.

Since all renewals are based on the plan commencement date either as a group plan or private member (or those that had a pro-rated automatic Jan 1 date for older enrollments regardless of when you applied) each person's date may be different so you must go directly to the source (application, HR or VSP) to get the exact answer to your specific question.
