I don't think I've ever conformed to anything in my entire life. OK, so I'm not really retired and I'm not 64 yet, so I shouldn't be here and I shouldn't be on Medicare yet, but I am on Medicare because I'm on SSDI so I am more or less retired and so I'm here, too.

Confused yet? So am I.

My state only offers a couple gap plans because I'm not 64 yet - or is it 62? Whatever, they cost a mint so I'm foregoing them as the deductible isn't that much. Well, it isn't as long as I stay out of doctor's offices.

Anyway, my doctor hadn't seen me for a year, so before I could fill a prescription last month, I had to duly appear before him to prove I was still breathing.

I got the bill yesterday. $900! I almost had a heart attack. Well, I called this morning and apparently Medicare put a gap between the letters of my name and therefore they rejected the entire bill when it arrived. The medical office fixed it and it's now been paid. *wipes sweat from brow*

But I was wondering if Medicare does that on purpose. You know, so people die of shock and then Medicare doesn't have to cover them anymore.

Anyway, do you have any good Medicare stories? I'd love to hear them.

That's quite a bill for doctor's office visit.

I know they bill the insurance big time, and know they'll only be reimbursed a small portion of the bill, but still, $900 for an office visit (unless you had some procedures along with that visit) seems excessive. The most I've seen for a doc's office bill was $500 for a consultative visit to a specialist, and he only got about $160 from Medicare.
