I clean my ears and my earrings with hydrogen peroxide. I wear hypoallergenic earrings and that keeps my infections at bay.

Bactrim ointment is a prescription only product, also known as Bactroban. How did you buy it over the counter?????

I think everyone is getting confused here. Bactrim is most definitely not the same thing as Bactroban.

Yes, they both are.

This reminds me of my ears. I got them pierced when I was 11 and they are still trying to heal. If I go without wearing earrings, they close. I have to re-pierce them.

I have other piercings in my ears that have completely closed. Guess it is my bodys way of telling me there aren't supposed to be holes there!

When I do where earrings, most of the time my ears get red and irritated, and warm to the touch.

This is an ancient thread, and I am OP but our daughter ended up closing up the holes. We ended up at the doctor twice since she had developed cellulitis he said. So far, she does not want anything to do with getting any more piercings ever since she had to go through that. No scarring and no lumps though and you can't even see where the ears were pierced anymore.
If she does decide to get them re-pierced when she is older, she will definitely go to a piercing parlor.... though she likely has a metal sensitivity, don't know if she ever will be able to have them.

A dermatologist will also do piercings in a sterile environment.

I'm glad she no longer has issues. I would highly recommend a reputable, experienced piercer.
