For those that are struggling with acne, whether it's recent or something you have been battling for quite some time, you might try eliminating anything containing cow's milk from your diet. Here is the science behind why it can contribute to and /or exacerbate acne.
Pregnant female cows from whom milk is drawn, contain hormones similar to those in your body that signal your oil glands to produce more sebum. Milk also contains Insulin like growth factor-1 (IGF) which can also create problems. There are 3 links below. One explaining the process more fully, the second shows some foods you wouldn't think contain milk but actually do and the third is from acne.org where people discuss their experiences with eliminating milk as a way to help clear acne in part or full.
It is important to note as with everything, that genetics do play a role also. Some people can drink all the milk they want, eat junk food or rarely wash their face and still have outstanding skin. It is however worth a try to eliminate milk and keep all other things constant in your life to see if it's a problem for you. I didn't make the connection myself until I was well into my thirties and found it to be a very big contributor to my acne. It also accounts for the fact as to why my acne kept coming back after repeated courses of the powerful anti-acne drug called Accutane which can sometimes cure people's acne for a lifetime with one 20 week course treatment.
The usual milk containing products are cheese, ice cream, butter, sour cream and sherbet.
