Starting monday or tuesday i had this pain in my shoulder which spread to my chest and my the rest of my back. It got so painful that it became hard to breath, and lay down. It felt like some one beat me across the back and chest with a folding chair. So i went to the ER last night talked to the doctor, he asked me what i had done that week...i told him i went mountian biking for about two hours saturday and on sunday. Long story short he said thqt is was from all that biking. My concern is that i have been biking for some time now with no problems, so why all of the sudden this pain?
This sounds very familiar. There is a type of pneumonia going around that has those exact symptoms. If they don't go away, I would go back to the Doctor as soon as possible. I know two people who got this pneumonia and they had identical symptoms.

Did you see a Cardiologist? What kind of tests did they run on you at the ER?? Sometimes doctors are quick to dismiss this type of pain and call it "muscle strain". Not trying to scare you but don't ignore the fact that heart pain mimics a lot of different kids of muscle strain. I had an aortic aneurysm right next to my heart that had damaged a valve in my heart because it was large and twisted..NO PAIN and didn't even know it was there. A good family physician HEARD it which is a miracle in itself. Take care of yourself and double check why now you have started having this kind of pain. Don't leave any stone unturned and will definitely keep my fingers crossed that you hit a big bump while riding your bike and merely twisted something..just find out for sure. Good Luck

I did hit something with my bike. I was trying to hop over a fallen log and hit it head on and saw some stars.
My husband had pain like that after a fall on his mountain bike. When he went back to riding, he kept getting the pain again, until he switched to a bike with a more upright riding posture.
