When I was in my teens the sun never bothered me, never wore sunglasses, never had trouble with bright sunny days.
I am 26 now but this started happening when I was around 21. Sometimes I cant look around without squinting and I always wear sunglasses when Im driving or when its a nice day.
I work outside on houses too so Im always in the sun, looking up and working.... On bright colored houses like yellow or white, sometimes just looking at the white siding really brings pain to my eyes and I cant look at it.
I have to wear sunglasses now and I never needed them when I was younger.
If that's not bad enough, I'm allergic to sunscreen now and have had a horrible rash for the last month, while I try to find some kind of sunscreen I can use because I burn badly if I'm out for even half an hour. Getting older sucks sometimes.
I used to be the same way. I was not sensitive to light until I got older. People with blue eyes are more likely to be sensitive (my dad has crystal blue eyes and he is not) but you can still become sensitive with darker eyes (my mother wears sunglasses every single day.)
I honestly think wearing contacts has made my eyes more sensitive over time and even the Cleveland Clinic states this on their site. I have been wearing them for more than ten years and over time, my eyes have become VERY sensitive to light. Even at night, I find lights from cars to be absolutely blinding.
Its sounds weird but Ive definitely had conversations with people about how the sun seems brighter lol. I know thats crazy talk though.
Not sure if its in my head, but since I started wearing sunglasses Ive felt more of a need to use them.. not sure if this is a placebo thing or this condition is progressing.....???
Im blessed with otherwise perfect vision, never needed contacts or anything.
I guess now I can invest in high quality sunglasses lol.
Are you on any new medications? I have a couple of them that cause it for me and I can't stay outside for very long. I feel like I am burning up from the inside out.....
No I havent taken meds like that in years by now..
I was talking to a coworker of mine and we drive a truck together for jobs.... I was picking off street names loong before he could even see them... I can recognize patterns of letters and form the word just by that... Its not like eagle eye zoom vision but I was reading signs more than twice the distance as he was.
He suggested that because I have really good vision and focus, Thats what makes my eyes so sensitive to light..
I have the same problem to a very annoying degree, but I am much older than you. However, I was told that I had less than normal protective pigment on the inside of my eyes many years ago, and now it is even less.
Have you seen an ophthamologist? Cataracts can cause light sensitivity and you can have really fabulous long distance vision with them for awhile. I had both.
