"...If mom didn't know she was Rh(-) and/or she didn't receive Rhogam "
I'm sorry, I thought we were talking about the current state of medicine in the US where a women's Rh status WOULD BE CHECKED AND SHE WOULD RECEIVE RHOGAM AFTER AN ELECTIVE ABORTION...
Didn't know we were discussing some fictional 3rd world operation of woulda/shoulda/coulda
There are some who would risk the penalties of HIPAA, probably considering themselves martyrs to the cause.
Loved your story, though!
Yeah. I give you that. If someone is willing to murder an abortion provider, they wouldn't give a fig for the penalties of pawing through records and spreading the word about those who've had abortions.

Even in Podunk, Thirld Worldsville they do basic blood typing.
Why would someone be willing to have an abortion and feel reluctant to share this with a doctor? Either you stand behind your decison or are ashamed of it, right?
Some are forced to get it by a boyfriend or parents or husband. I am sure many would just like to forget all about it.
According to HIPAA, those people shouldn't have access to your medical info unless you authorize it.
And, personally, I would want to know my doctor's views on subjects like abortion. In fact, though I was in my 40s when I began seeing my current physician, and thankfully into the egg-rot stage of life, I did use the A-word when she was asking me about my reproductive history:
Doctor: "ever been pregnant?"
Me: "nope. no pregnancies, no abortions, husband got the Big V so I haven't been on birth control, never tried, never wanted kids....."
Doctor: <no change in expression> "OK. Sometimes I wish I had never had my little buggers. Any history of heart disease, diabetes ....."
If she had so much as twitched a brow, I would have likely pressed further for her views. Any doctor who is against abortion, I would question what options they might be leaving out in regards to the care of my reproductive organs.
I think I would be finding another doctor with that answer.
When my hubby worked for 2 OB/GYNs a woman did go into the files to look at a friend's file. She was caught and my hubby had to fire her. It's against the rules for staff to be in the files without any reason. She said she was trying to see if her friend had delivered her baby yet but a friend would know that.
Oh well, all of our files will be online soon anyway for all to see. No privacy when the IRS takes it all over.
Yes. Where did I say it didn't?
You should tell them everything, including that.
The OP implies there is something different about abortion.
