Has anyone had gout that lasted for 8 days or more? If so, what did you do? Is this common?

My husband did. He currently has medication he takes once a day when he has a flair up, but it wasn't working. He went to the local urgent care, and they gave him some medication to take every hour or two (?) until it went away. It was still about 24 more hours for improvement, And about 3 more days for full recovery. We have no idea what caused such a bad flair up. I hope you're feeling better soon. My husband says the pain is really bad.

ETA he had to use crutches because he couldn't walk on it.

My longest flareup fortunately was about 48 hrs. Black cherry juice is the best remedy. Drink lots of other fluids. I always have a supply on hand.

8 DAYS? I also have a hacksaw in my shop!

Three years ago, I had gout in all the joints of both feet 24/7. It lasted for 3+ months. I was taking colchicine every hour of day -- it would help for a day but then the gout would come back right away with a vengeance.

I was bedbound all 3+ months and even ended up in the hospital 3 times -- twice for the pain and once for an accumulated colchicine overdose. I was truly willing to have both feet removed at that time.

Blood tests hinted at kidney problems and eventually another test confirmed that I was in acute kidney failure. My body wasnt producing too much uric acid but my bad kidneys werent processing it. Once I got on the right meds to treat my acute kidney failure, the gout cleared up.

The colchicine would have helped more if my kidneys hadnt been so bad. I take an ani-gout med every day now -- I might not really need it but I dont ever want to go through that pain again.
