Apparently, I have arthritic knees and have developed a Baker's Cyst in the right one. This means that there is excessive fluid in the knee which presses on the nerve.
So, I'm taking some prednisone and got some shots, but what are the chances this will go away and not come back?
Has anyone else had this?
I have one in my left knee that I became aware of on March 8, 2011. I heard something pop and fell down the basement stairs. I have looked for info on this but there is very little. It hurts still.
I fear that since it's propably caused by arthritis in my case, and since I'm not getting any younger, why would it ever go away? I think I have the option of getting the fluid sucked out of it every so often, but don't know yet.
I have the same thing. My knees are now bone on bone with a bakers cyst in one. I'll be getting the left one replaced in July and the right one some months later.
Wow these posts are not encouraging. Yesterday was one of the worst for me. I was in so much pain all day long. I guess I will have to accept this or learn how to live with it.
Fortunately my knees are healthy other than whatever caused this excess fluid. Do any of you take celebrex? I believe this would help, however I take warfarin, so NSAIDs are out for pain relief.
A Baker's cyst is a sac that is contiguous with your joint fluid / joint capsule. You will always have joint fluid, so once the cyst forms it will always be there and will come back even if you try to aspirate it. You can get surgery on them to try and stop the communication between the cyst area and the joint fluid, but I've seen many of them still partially filled. Treat the arthritis and ask your doctor what options you have with regards to cyst management.
My mom had one and the docs gave her shots, I think a steriod one. One day she woke up and had this huge knot behind her knee that was as hard as a rock. It went down after the shot. She hasn't mentioned it in a while though so I am not sure how she feels. I'll have to ask.
My mother has arthritis really bad and she has a cyst near her elbow and one right under one of her kneecaps. They look weird but she says they don't hurt. Her doctors said to leave them alone and that they cannot be aspirated. Is this the same thing?
My symptoms seem to be better after the course of prednisone. My cyst cannot be seen or felt, just the resulting pain when I bend the knee as far as it can go.
Tx and Jukes, those do not sound like the same thing, but they could be.
