I need to make an appointment for an eye exam and my pupils will be dilated. I have to drive six miles to this office, and I don't feel comfortable leaving there with blurry vision. How long will I have to wait?

It will depend upon your age. I can get right back in my car and leave, a teenager has to wait an hour or so to be safe. But it may vary a great deal from individual to individual, that I do not know. Ask the doctor's office.

I've never been able to immediately drive, so I guess this is a YMMV situation. I called the office at three this afternoon and the staff was gone for the day. Their office hours aren't on their website. I guess I'll just try again tomorrow.

I was afraid someone was going to say that. I'd like to go in the afternoon. I'd also like to leave that area before rush hour(s) and nightfall.

I had it when I was about 12 years old and I couldn't go back to school afterward. The drive home in the car was murder in New Orleans on my dilated eyes. Today some 30+ years later, I can drive myself after. YMMV depends on how much drips into your eyes too! My mom is a little more than 20 years older than me and usually has me help her with rides when this is done to her.

How long does it last? Usually by an hour or two you'll notice it diminishing.

Blue eyed blonde here and supposedly that makes a difference. I no longer allow them to
dilate my eyes because it makes me dizzy, nauseated and my eyes don't go back to normal for up to 8 hours.

Find a different optometrist with the Optomap system so dilation won't be needed for the eye exam.

It could take anywhere up to a few hours depending on what you're getting done. If it's not too bad, they may give you darkening glasses that help you see so you can leave.

I don't think you'll need to worry. The eyes will be dilated, not blurry, and subject to the aggravation of extreme brightness. The eye doctor should be giving you one of those cheap plastic dark eye lens cover so you can drive. The dilatation can last from 2-3 hours on the average.
