I've gotten a mix of answers on Yahoo! Answers. But is it possible for a young man (19) to have a vasectomy?

Good luck. I hope everything works out okay.

Hmmm... well, it's possible, of course, but not probable that you'd find a doctor willing to do it. Nineteen is so very, very young, and 10 years of experience might drastically change your mind. I would think that unless you had a medical reason (i.e. you were the carrier of a fatal disease), you would be turned down by any doctor.

This was a number of years ago, but I knew someone that had one in his early 20's. These days doctors worry soooo much about lawsuits and with a man this young, having had no children nor been married, it is doubtful. It certainly is not impossible though. He may have found a doctor that would do one or maybe if there was a genetic hereditary problem he could find someone to do it. My guess would be no though. It took my sister years and years to find someone that would finally tie her tubes and that was over 20 years ago. She finally found someone to do it in her later 20's.

Child free groups are usually willing to pass out names of doctors that have been willing to do so. In fact I think LAfan, I believe they discussed that on that other board I mentioned to you.

No, I won't change my mind.

I didn't realize it was you that wanted a vasectomy yourself. I would call some doctors in your area, anything from family practice to surgeons to urologists and ask their office if they or anyone they know will do this at your age.

Thanks. People on Y!A are really rude when it comes to topics like this.

Yes, you can.

I had a tubal ligation in my early 20s, went through an amazing amount of bs to get it and still think it is the very best thing I ever did. 35 years later, I've never regretted a day of my childfree life.

My ex-h had a vasectomy in his early 20s also.

It's so much easier for a guy to get sterilized than a woman. Your local planned parenthood might be able to direct you to a physician who can help you out.

Might I say thank you for knowing that you don't want kids and being willing to do something about it. I mean that from the bottom of my heart. More people should follow your lead.

Then again, I feel that most people shouldn't breed (me included).
