3 Sunday's ago had allergic conjunctivitis in my right eye that cleared in 10 day's. 8 days later had a sensation in my left eye as if sand was stuck in the corner of the eye. 5 day's later it didn't bother me so I put my contacts on. 6 hrs in felt like sand in my eye and lasted another day.
For right now no pain in the left eye, but both eyes are itch and dry. Think seeing an M.D. eye doctor is worth it?
Were those new contacts you reinserted? Could have picked up something from prior insertion. Toss them if so.
I live in a dry climate, and a hot one and need a/c,which makes it even drier. Sometimes my eyes feel like sand but in my case it is dryness. Worse in summer, obviously.
I am very fond of this product. You put the drops in, and your lids kind of stick together while you sleep and really lubricate the eyes. The daytime version is good too.

The other option is to give it a few days using eye drops religiously, especially the ones for contact lens users if you insist on wearing them, although I'd leave them out until the gritty sensation is gone.
Conjunctivitis is VERY contagious....yes, you need to see a doctor! If you ever get it in 1 eye, you are likely to get it in the other, a few days later....as you now know!
