How could you possibly be paying $450 for an orthopedic office visit? I can call a world class sports medicine office like Mass General, schedule Mark Price, the New England Patriots team physician and knee/shoulder guy, tell them I'm paying cash, and it will be less than that. No insurance company pays that kind of fee for an office visit.
Yup, agree with this. My orthopedic surgeon is the Lakers surgeon...and his visits aren't nearly that costly. Also, 95% of the time cash paying patients get a discounts--most hospitals use a sliding scale, even with HHI of 6 figures. Most people just don't know to ask.
I would not be making a return visit to that doc! We are lucky we have a portal that we log into and the results of any tests are posted usually within a day or two. Only occasionally has my husband had to see the doctor concerning a blood test result, but only when there is an issue that needs to be addressed.
Yeah the online portal login is a real lifesaver for me, as I'm disabled and can't drive. Another trip to the doctor's office just to discuss test results would be a pain in the ass.
I have not read the other posts, however labCorp will post your results for you on it's portal and also send the physician the results, and this site will help you understand your results https://labtestsonline.org/. Of course then, you will still want to confer with your physician afterwards. It sounds as if you may want to shop for another health care provider. All the best. I advise you to keep and control all health records and stay in control of your health.
Our medical system, is a huge high rise office building with offices attached to the hospital, and other large medical buildings for specialists. They have hospitals and medical offices, around the state. They have teleconference rooms, where with big screens, for personal visits with the specialists, when a visit is not required to the bigger city. They have trained medical staffs, that can do any tests that are needed, under the supervision of the specialists in the distant city. They are one of only 7 medical systems, also affiliated with the Mayo Clinic. They have 2 helicopters and if over 150 miles they use one of their 3 turbo prop medical equipped planes they own. The cover Montana, Northern Wyoming, both the Dakotas, and a large swath into Canada where they do not have adequate facilities. My daughter had to be moved from the local hospital to the big one with the specialists available. When that flight crew arrived at our hospital, the flight nurse took over. Other nurses got out of her way, and gave any help needed to check my daughter and get her ready for transport. One of the nurses I knew well, told my wife and I that this woman was the best nurse in the entire system, and she is proud of the fact that she has never lost a patient getting them to the large facility.
We can see our medical files on line. When I have my annual physical, there is also lab work done that day for an extensive evaluation. If the doctor reviewing the lab work does not find something that needs another visit, the doctor dictates a letter telling me the results, and makes any adjustment in medicine sending prescriptions by fax to my pharmacy. They are too busy, to be running a money grabbing unneeded office call ring. I am sorry that some of you have to have that kind of medical system.
My wife and I are both in our later 80s, and in excellent health. The medical system is so good, we will not leave the area to be near some of our children who are widely scattered. We check out their medical systems, and don't want to down grade.
1. Change doctors
2. Before you change doctors go in person and ask for a print out of your results. You paid for them, they are yours.
If my doctor can't get in touch with me they mail me my results. I don't even remind them. The duplicate work is unnecessary. So often those follow up visits are unnecessary, too. I view everything as I am done with my yearly, my body feels fine, the meds are responding, I'm following their suggestions, so why go back? Just cancel appointments that are unnecessary and be your own advocate.
If my doctor wanted a back up physical after just having one I would've wanted a consult. What did you find? Nothing? Well then why do you want to see me again?
My view:
Doctors are a dime a dozen.
I wonder how many cheated to get their degree.
How many keep up with their profession or if they always rely on what they were taught 30 years ago.
Quacks are out there.
You, along with everyone else, missed that this was his FIRST appointment with this doctor. A no
The doctor is NOT "his doctor". A NEW PATIENT.
Not only are there no "suggestions" there hasn't even been an evaluation.
Because the OP flounced.
Yeah, a dime a dozen. At this rate he'll get what he paid for. Ziltch.

The OP's version of "taking control" is to get mad and flounce.
Did you read the first post? He wasn't interested in conferring with "his" physician. Which he wasn't, anyway.
He was a new patient, knows nothing about how anything works, and apparently has not been under any doctor's care in perhaps ever.
Instead of asking, he just left.
And subsequently in the part you didn't read, yes of course, they told him how to access his portal. Not necessary to go to some third party vendor.
Don't know where you got your testing done here in my state we go to a 3rd party company you can just call them they will give you the results directly you just tell them your moving want to keep a hard copy of all your medical test's they should not have a problem with that. If you got the test at your doctors office that is another issue but you might be able to just call them ask the doctors office for a copy of your records they might give them to you who knows.
