For many years I had a sudden pain in my Achilles every once in a while and it would go away almost right away. It felt like it was going to get much worse if I did not stop walking right away. Ankle pain in other places forced me to get an x-ray and it showed a bone fragment near my Achilles. Had minor surgery to remove the bone fragment and it never happened again.
Research "medications and Achilles Heal tears." It's mind-boggling what some medications can do (and not in a good way).
Amen to this - and remember that it's not just Cipro but ANY fluoroquinolone antibiotics - including but not limited to Cipro, Levaquin, and Avelox. Basically anything with "flox" or "lox" in the full name (Cipro is Ciprofloxacin for instance).
I've had Peroneal Tendinitis on my right foot for going on 13 years now, and including surgery, I've never found anything that will "cure" it for long. Just resting it doesn't work. The ankle itself is VERY unstable. Wearing a brace can help, but it's sensitive to being strapped tightly, and the brace MUST BE strapped as tightly as I can get it to keep my foot from rolling over at the slightest slant on the surface I'm walking on. So, I can't strap it for very long without it causing even more pain after a fairly short time. It's been bad enough at times I've considered chopping off my foot, as it feels like walking on a raw, bloody stump as it is.
