Well, every time I listen to one of my favorite MD's on radio on Saturdays, his big mantra is Do NoHarm...and so I decided to look up the origin. Thought I'd park it here for others to think on.
((The takeaway point of "first do no harm" is that, in certain cases, it may be better to do nothing rather than intervening and potentially causing more harm than good.))
In my 80 yrs I've had 3 harms done to me, 1 from a drug and two from surgeries. So maybe I'm doing good as some would say. Hope I don't have to add more to my 3 before it's all over.

I doubt that you will jaminhealth, because you've become your own advocate, and aren't afraid to look at alternatives, or do a little research on any drugs prescribed.
More people should do that....

I know your hip replacement was 1 harm, what was the other one? I don't remember you talking about another surgery that harmed you.

Every patient, including jamin, is given risks and benefits forms to read and sign before surgery. Patients are given consent forms to read and sign before surgery.
The "harm" being referred to in this post refers to the risks that are inherent in absolutely every surgery performed. Those risks are explained in detail in writing and given to the patient to read before surgery. The patients signs the risks and benefits forms, and the patient signs consent forms agreeing to take the risks and have the surgery performed in spite of the explained risks.
Before surgery, there are no promises made, and there are no secrets kept from patients; the risks and benefits of having the surgery are right there in writing in the patient's hand. Either read the risks and benefits forms, and sign the consent form saying that you are willing to take the risks, or don't have the surgery. There's no gun at your head.
