A series of autopsies conducted by LSU Health New Orleans pathologists shows the damage to the hearts of COVID-19 patients is not the expected typical inflammation of the heart muscle associated with myocarditis, but rather a unique pattern of cell death in scattered individual heart muscle cells. They report the findings of a detailed study of hearts from 22 deaths confirmed due to COVID-19 in a Research Letter published in Circulation, available here.
"We identified key gross and microscopic changes that challenge the notion that typical myocarditis is present in severe SARS-CoV-2 infection," says Richard Vander Heide, M.D., Ph.D., Professor and Director of Pathology Research at LSU Health New Orleans School of Medicine. "While the mechanism of cardiac injury in COVID-19 is unknown, we propose several theories that bear further investigation that will lead to greater understanding and potential treatment interventions."
This crazy disease gets worser and worser
This is truly scary ****, I haven't seen anything like this in 60 years

and the big issue is how much of what they are telling us is legit and how much is simply scare tactics or exaggerated way over the top, It would take a lot of studies to prove this theory

Who is disputing that it takes more than one study? You make observations and from that propose a theory...that is either supported or not by more sets of observations...change theory based on all observations to date...rinse and repeat. it's not that tough of a process to figure out.
I know laypeople think it is somehow "cheating" to change a theory based on the evidence but since when was anyone's first guess about anything 100% correct? That's what science IS - making observations and developing theories based on them.

They are describing what they see. How is that not legit?
If it's fatal and you have pneumonia, it's probably going to result in damage to the heart after the lungs start to fail. They often associate myocarditis with pneumonia. If you look up the original SARS (and this is SARS 2.0), you see the same observations, such as heart failure.

What would compel pathologists at LSU to jeopardize their entire career by faking a study so that they could use it as a scare tactic?

I have never said anything like that or thought it as a matter of fact. I am simply saying I am one of those who do not think all studies are completely accurate. There are too many ways of reporting results or at best are later found to be inaccurate.
