Why haven't doctors, politicians and news outlets been screaming from the rooftops about the complications from Covid and being overweight?

Well. first of all, they get flamed for blaming the sick person. One health official- can't remember who, not Dr. Fauci- noted that minorities are getting hit harder with COVID but that those groups also tended to have higher rates of comorbidities including obesity, diabetes, high BP, etc. He was immediately confronted by someone who accused him of blaming minorities. All he did was refer to the numbers.

Second- it's a crapshoot. Sadly, as this disease spreads, it's hitting more and more people I know personally. The one who's the most overweight seems to have come through it OK. A couple in their 70s also appears to have recovered without hospitalization. We probably all know young, healthy people who had terrible cases or lasting health issues. Losing weight, getting your BP down, controlling diabetes all take hard work (and sometimes, in the case of the last two, it's what you were born with). If people aren't already motivated to do it, I don't think the COVID risk will convince them since they may see that as an unlikely event.

They’ve certainly publicized it’s a huge contributing factor. But, also, it’s not an issue quickly or easily solved.

Because most people are obese by definition. People already know Weight Kills - this is just one more way. Being overweight is far more likely to kill you 100 other ways than COVID - and yet, no diet.

Why would this be different?

I think that's part of it. Let's say you have 100+ lbs. to lose. If you do it sensibly it will take months, maybe the better part of a year. I can see people thinking that by then we'll have a widely-available vaccine anyway. (And I sincerely hope we do!)

They probably know that America is just going to get fatter and fatter, no
matter what the consequences.

Fauci recommended 1000mg(i would do 500mg 2x daily, preferrably time release) of vitamin C for immunity, however Vitamin C competes with sugar for insulin transport, and loses. Sugar is preferred.

Even though it might take months to lose a 100lbs, you can quickly get your sugar levels under control through diet and exercise. Cut back on sweets and breads/pasta

They use BMI by definition, which is flawed. They overstate the number of obese people.
