Sorry about the paywall. But I think the story is important and concerning. Either getting everyone vaccinated in itself may not be enough or the Chinese vaccine they administered may not be good enough. Interesting to see if other countries with high vaccination rates and a surge develop.
Seychelles, which has vaccinated a higher proportion of its population against coronavirus than any other country, is struggling to contain a new surge in Covid-19 infections, raising questions about the effectiveness of a Chinese shot the island nation has administered to the majority of its vaccinated residents.
In recent days, a rush of patients seeking treatment has overwhelmed the Seychelles’s sole coronavirus treatment center, as the pristine archipelago of 115 islands in the Indian Ocean battles its worst wave of infections, according to the health ministry.
65% of identified cases are among unvaccinated, apparently. In a country where 85% of targeted population is vaccinated, that is significant. Still, obviously vaccines not working so well as hoped for.
When you say "this particular vaccine," which vaccine are you referring to? I believe there are 5 different vaccines.
They have been using the Chinese developed Sinopharm vaccine, which is not approved for use in the US and as pointed out above, appears to be much lower in efficacy than other vaccines in use.

They've been using Sinopharm and Astra Zeneca (neither used in the US), but I'm not certain atlguy was referring to either of those.
They reopened for tourists, including from India. The data is also very sparse. Many of the days have zero cases and then there are the one-day spikes. They are also getting complaints from tourists that they are being given false positive tests and forced to stay 2 extra weeks. People who are recently vaccinated, such as tourists, can still spread the virus while they're still building up the antibody levels from the shots. That's probably why most of the infected are the unvaccinated.
Sylvestre Radegonde, Seychelles foreign and tourism minister, defended the Chinese vaccine and insisted the country would continue to allow tourists, providing they followed social distancing guidelines. Tourism makes up around a quarter of the islands’ gross domestic product.
“I don’t think people should start questioning the effectiveness of the Chinese vaccine,” he said. “The patients admitted in hospitals have mild symptoms.”

Likely reflects, at least in part, Sinopharm's vaccine efficacy. By report, 50% decrease for case; 84% decrease severe illness.
It's working, just not really well.
