Hi everybody! I know that Salmon is healthy. But isnt Lox smoked Salmon? I heard some say smoked food is not healthy, so does that make Lox a bad choice for a meal?

Unhealthy or healthy?

I believe lox is made by brining--it is a bit different from smoked salmon.
It gets confusing, but I think all smoked salmon is cured (in a brine mixture), but not all cured salmon is smoked.
Either way there is salt/sugar involved, but most people do not stuff themselves with lox when they eat it.
It sure is delicious, though.

What about hot lox and cold lox?

I think they're both in a brine as you mention Blue, but if I'm not mistaken, the hot lox is then smoked as well?

I've heard that smoked foods aren't good for you also, but there are some things that one just cannot give up!

Unless you're filthy rich, you probably have nothing to worry about .. as it's doubtful you'll be eating it 24-7, so enjoy!

I think when people are talking about the harms of smoked foods, they're talking about grilled foods with charring meats, which can supposedly be cancerous.
Lox is either brined and not really smoked at all, or is cold smoked...if it's hot smoked it's some variety of smoked salmon, but it's not lox.
Lox, on the other hand, does have a lot of salt in it, and some folks are told to stay away from salt because of blood pressure issues..Nova Lox is less salty and tastes better than regular lox, and if you're combing it with a bagel, and cream cheese, and some red onion and tomato, then you've got all the major food groups and a complete meal.
